After three years as the restaurant’s Chef, Billy Harto purchased Thai Pepper in 1991. The menu was expanded, introducing modern Thai cuisine and exciting signature dishes such as Indonesian Grilled Lamb.
The restaurant itself occupies a unique space: a scenic and serene below-street location just steps away from Ashland’s Historic Plaza. Here the cool, rushing waters of Lithia Creek flow through a park-like setting to the great delight of restaurant patrons no matter the season.
Thai Pepper has garnered the gamut of area dining awards including: Most Romantic, Best Outdoor Setting, and Best Thai Food. It has also been featured in national and regional food and wine publications. Here’s what Bon Appetit had to say: “The patio at Thai Pepper, garlanded with pink and white Impatiens and cascading ivy, is an oasis next to bubbling Lithia Creek, and the cooking bursts with sprightly flavors.”
In 2007 the restaurant added a street level bar with complete menu service in what had formerly been part of the Hanson-Howard Gallery. Cooled by mountain waters and wooded banks, Thai Pepper uses far less air condition and is committed to keeping it’s operation as green as possible.
